Sport & Cultural Weekend with the TRC

43661850_1915667361858651_4456024721309302784_nAt the end of October, we had the pleasure of hosting for the weekend, a touring group of parents and children from the Tanglin Rugby Club led by Grant Coombe. On the Saturday afternoon they participated in a mini grassroots day with the children of Taramana and Enfants d’Asie. Thank you to all who helped to organise the trip and who participated in this great afternoon of rugby, fun and sharing!

As well as sport, the visiting Tanglin Rugby Club spent some time with some of the Khmer children they played with on the day before in order to visit some cultural sites around Phnom Penh and enjoy some relaxing time at the pool afterwards.
A visit to Oudong, the ancient capital of Cambodia, was undertaken on the Sunday, and it was a great morning to experience the spellbinding atmosphere of this special place.

Once again, thank you to Grant Coombe and the TRC for this great visit and the generous donation of sports clothing and equipment!

For the second year in a row we were lucky enough to have a visit from the Valkyries rugby club in Singapore.  They were the first girls rugby club established there, and KB organised a mini tournament on the 11th of November involving girls from 7 to 17 years old who are under the KB program to play against the visiting club.  It was a full morning of rugby and four trophies were given away at the end.  The visiting group had just enough time to go back to their hotel for lunch and a swim before flying back to Singapore that evening.  We thank the Valkyries for their support of KB and Cambodian girls rugby, and we look forward to welcoming them again next year!

KB DAY Featuring CECIFOOT

On the 11th of June, KB again welcomed more than 450 children from our NGO and school partners for our last KB DAY of the school year before the summer holidays. The theme of the day was social inclusion as the children were mixed into different teams ranging from Under 9 up to U15 – great for sharing and making new friends! We also started the morning with a Cecifoot game between Krousar Thmey Kompong Chnam and Krousar Themy Phnom Penh.  Cecifoot is a game inspired by football that was created in France in 1987 for blind and visually impaired players. There is a bell inside the ball to allow the players to hear where the ball is, and bars are beaten against the goalposts to signal where the goals are.  This is the first time that an exhibition game of Cecifoot has been played in Cambodia, and the adults and children watching were all inspired and entertained by the energetic and fast-moving match between the Krousar Thmey teams.  Thank you to the volunteers and our sponsors and supporters – UNICEF, Australian Aid, Krousar Thmey, Naga Clinic, and Hagar Catering.
